Many descriptive terms used on labels on foods are regulated by the USDA, and the FDA.
Almost all packaged foods have their ingredients printed on their labels.
There are a few foods such as Peanut Butter, Mayonnaise and Ice Cream that have standard ingredients, and do not list their ingredients.
The ingredients on packaged foods are always listed in order of their weight, from the highest to the lowest.
This is a good tool for you the shopper to use in comparing the relative quantities of some ingredients, even when some are not specifically listed.
